![]() The longevity she gets out of those cartridges is amazing so we're doing what we can for her to limit new complexities for her. ![]() This is for an elderly, retired client so her printing is regular but limited. That will be coming next if these fixes don't work. If there isn't a policy with regards to rotating out aging hardware to a non-critical role, with an attached followup replacement window, then that's a good place to start in terms of a much bigger picture view of this specific scenario.Īgreed. Yes, I'm exaggerating, but that can often be helpful to underscore the facts in such matters. Explain that in IT/with technology, age is akin to "Dog years." After a device is more than 4-5 years old, an appropriate guideline for non-technical people to use to understand "how old" a piece of equipment is, is to multiply by 1.5 after (say) 5-6 years (might as well be 7.5 to 9 years old), and thereafter double its factual age. That should add to the argument against trying to preserve the unit. ![]() Given the cost of cartridges, Opens a new window just to get into the HP Web interface of the old dinosaur. Make a VM of an older Windows, install Java, etc. How much is your time worth ? How many billable hours have you spent already ?ĭoable ? Potentially. Honestly, you need to have a brutally honest (but polite !) conversation with your client (or, yourself), and ask what keeping a now 10-years out of production printer going is worth. Anyone know how to get around that? I've tried IE, Edge, Firefox, Chrome, etc. The firmware does need to be updated but I'm a bit stuck because of these issues loading the portal from my PC. Trying to open the portal on a Mac simply says it's not supported on Mac so I have to do it on my PCs but the security layers in place are getting in the way. The portal is so old it gets blocked as a security precuation because of Java even though I've got the latest java running on my machinese and I've added the IP address to the Java security exceptions list and made sure my browsers weren't set to block it. ![]() One issue I'm running into is I can't get the printer portal to open on my PCs or Macs. Once it's removed the computer can usually see it again. ![]() Seems that the printer loses connection with the computer and has to be removed. I am trying all of these as we work through them. ![]()
